Rotkehlchen

Café Rotkehlchen - hipster meets romance

Impressions

Café Rotkehlchen is a cute little café located in Cologne Ehrenfeld - not far away from Ehrenfeld train station.

While Venloer Straße might not be so such a cozy place per se, this place changes your feeling once you entered the door. The café is small and cute with its brick walls and old chairs and tables. The non-perfectness of Rotkehlchen makes it quite charming and there is a pleasant vibe inside - maybe also because there are only a few seats/tables which are quite close to each other, so it would not be suprising if you end up talking to your neighbour.

Bottom line, I can only recommend this place for a coffee break or breakfast, even if you're not int vegan food. But be prepared to wait for a table, especially on weekends.

Taste

The cappuccino was of excellent taste. No bitterness and creamy texture of the milk foam on top. Nothing to complain about.

The café also offers various food options, be it self-made paninis, soups or cake.

Atmosphere

Rotkehlchen is one of those places that has its own unique vibe and in this case a very pleasant one. You will find mostly young people here, some hipsters of course, and it is neither too loud nor too quiet. The interior includes brick walls, chalk boards, tables and chairs that remind you of classrooms from older decades.  The only downside is that it is really small and on weekends even the spots on the bench right next to the toilet are taken.

Value

Good value for money. Both drinks and food are priced reasonably.
